I also mentioned the triple bottom line framework taken from the environmental movement. Using our committees, residents, and businesses as resources in guiding what we do as a Township. I spoke about our shared history and desire to evolve to meet the challenges of the future. When I was elected to be mayor by my colleagues on Township Council I gave a speech laying out some of my ideas about how I think of Lawrence Township and my goals for my time as mayor.

I mention these two events because they for me exemplify the strengths of Lawrence: a confident determination and a community that takes to heart our country’s motto “E pluribus unum” or “Out of many, one.” It is these strengths that brought me and my family to Lawrence almost 14 years ago and has now become home to this kid from California. Here was a reminder to me that we are community that values the traditions of our past and is open to sharing and learning from those traditions. On Sunday, I attended our Township’s Diversity Day celebrations that included speeches, music, dance, food, and various tables that highlighted the strength and depth of the Lawrence community. A small locally owned business that is unafraid of larger chains because they share a common vision for success and know their customers. It’s the same energy you feel when you step into Mrs. What made this event memorable wasn’t the food or the music but the enthusiasm that the owner David Milligan has and had shared with his staff and with his clients. Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending a ribbon cutting for “Non Stop Fitness,” a newly expanded gym in the Princeton Plaza strip mall along Business Route 1.
